What is Methyl Bromide?

Methyl Bromide, CH₃Br, is a colourless, odourless liquified gas mainly used as highly effective fumigating element in agriculture. It penetrates soil with ease and is very effective against a wide spectrum of harmful elements: weeds, nematodes, parasites, insects, fungi, bacteria, rodents, etc.. Methyl Bromide is also very useful for fumigating containers, buildings, silos and grain carriers.

For some 50 years now, methyl bromide has been the most used agricultural fumigant due to its effectiveness and unique characteristics.

Contrary to treatments with most alternative products, a methyl bromide treatment covers a wider range of harmfull elements and can be done in the shortest time possible and with virtually no negative effects to its direct environment (such as the soil or the ground water).
